5A Rules Affect Varsity Ticket Prices, Spirit Lines

FARMINGTON -- In an interview last week, Farmington athletic director Brad Blew outlined some changes with Farmington's quantum leap to 5A that are different than anything Cardinal fans have experienced previously.

"There's a couple of things that are going to be certainly a lot different than anything we've experienced as far as our fans go," Blew said. "Admission prices will be significantly different."

For all varsity games, the 5A West has a conference rule of $5 per person for admission regardless of age or status meaning senior citizens, students and children will pay the same as adults. Blew said the policy will not affect junior high games as Farmington has elected not to join the 5A West at the junior high level.

Blew said the other change that will be different in football is there's a 5A Classification rule barring any spirit lines involving the public.

"For years we've formed spirit lines had little kids and parents out there, anybody that wanted to be a part of that," Blew said. "What my thought is right now, we're playing the Prairie Grove game, we're going to let everybody out there and have some fun, but anytime we get in a conference game we'll certainly have to abide by the rules that apply to us."

Fortunately for Farmington fans non-conference games against former 4A-1 rival Prairie Grove are beyond 5A jurisdiction, and an exception can be made for that game only, according to Blew.

Otherwise when the Cardinals are the visiting opponent at Prairie Grove, which they will be on Sept. 5, only one team, the Tigers (not bound by any 5A rules), would be sent out onto the playing field passing through the well-wishes of fans, alumni, parents and student body forming a spirit line; something that would appear odd and unfair.

"I don't really think we're going to abide by that for junior high but when we get to high school, with the exception of the Prairie Grove game, that certainly will be enforced but that's something that we're going to have to live with," Blew said.
