LINCOLN -- Josh and Tiffany Taber combined their skills and started a new business which fits both of them.

"I'm not good at pricing and office management," Tiffany Taber said. "That is Josh's expertise. What I can do is graphic design. It's what I love. People say what he can do, she can't and vice versa and in this way we're a perfect fit."

The Tabers own The Local Sign Shop, which opened in June.

"We've pretty much gotten new orders every day," Tiffany said.

"Yes, it's doing real well and has picked up quite a bit," Josh Taber said. "Since we opened, we have increased business since then."

What the Tabers do is signs -- all kinds of signs, from outdoor to indoor, aluminum, cloth, vinyl and paper. They specialize in banners, business signs, real estate signs, yard sale signs, flyers, business cards, announcements, invitations, license plates, magnets, shirts, ball caps, sports decals, coffee mugs and puzzles.

"Tiffany works creates designs on the computer then sends a proof to the customer. If it's approved by the customer, she sizes the order, cuts it out with a special cutter and we heat press the image or letters onto the choice of material," Josh said.

Tiffany said she loved working on a high school year book and belonging to the art club. After graduation she took graphic design classes at the University of Arkansas and Northwest Arkansas Community College.

"I loved it," she said.

The graphic art training then led to a job at a sign shop in Farmington.

"That was the beginning," Tiffany said. Although she didn't work at the shop but a year and a half, she had found something she wanted to do -- design.

Josh bought her a cutter to cut out her designs, so Tiffany worked on items at home for family and friends and Josh worked in the computer field.

Then Josh Taber lost his job.

"We had a big decision to make," Josh said. "This is something we had talked about for years but it was still a big decision. Since Tiffany had worked for a sign shop and enjoyed design we decided to go for it. We both grew up in Lincoln and enjoy it here."

"I always wanted a perfect job I could do," Tiffany said. "I read once -- if you can't find the perfect job, create it." That is what she believes they have done -- created a perfect job for themselves.

"We're a custom shop," Josh said. "We don't keep a lot in stock. We customize everything and haven't sold the same thing twice since we started."

The couple have three children, Treyson, Kolden and Maura.

"What's good for us is that we can have the children at the shop with us, so we can have our business and our family time," Tiffany said.

The Local Sign Shop is located at 17523 W. Hwy. 62, Lincoln. For information or orders, call 479-824-2000.
