Lady Tigers Ready for 2014 Volleyball Season

PRAIRIE GROVE -- The Lindsey Layes era has officially begun for the Prairie Grove Tigers Volleyball program.

Coach Layes, a former volleyball player for and a graduate of Arkansas Tech University takes over the reins of the Tiger volleyball program from coach Hannah McDonald.

"I am really thrilled to be here," said Layes. "Everyone has been so nice, and the girls have been working very hard to get ready for the season."

Layes takes over a Tiger program that reached the state semifinals in 2012, but struggled last season. However, with both experienced and talented players dotting the volleyball court, Layes should be able to improve upon their 2013 campaign, "We want to have a winning and successful season, and our goal is to be competitive and put up a fight in every game we play," concluded Layes.

LIBERO

Senior Landry Laird will again don the different color jersey from her Libero position, "Landry is a great leader on the floor and a defensive specialist. She is definitely one of our top defensive players," said Layes.

SETTERS

Senior Taylor Spinks and junior Makalya Calvin are tabbed to man the setter positions for coach Layes. "Taylor wasn't a setter last season, but she has moved into that position and has put forth 100 percent hustle and effort. And Makalya is a hard worker that brings a lot of positive energy to the court," said Layes.

MIDDLE HITTERS

Coach Layes stated that she has three "standout" players at the middle hitter spots. Layes says that senior middle hitter Marie Gregson is a "good leader" both on and off the court, and that senior Kelsey Webb is a player that "brings a lot of energy," who really gets the team "pumped up." Sophomore Riley Gerwig, who coach Layes says has "great potential," rounds out the trio of middle hitters.

OUTSIDE HITTERS

A trifecta of Tigers will see playing time at the outside hitter position in 2014. Layes says that senior Jaelynn Kilburn is, "one of team's defensive leaders," and that junior Bonnie Kragel is a solid "all-around" player. Junior Katie Bowman rounds out the trio and is according to Layes a "hard worker," who "is always working to improve her game."
