Cards' Last Hurrah

FARMINGTON -- In their last 4A-1 campaign, Farmington football went 6-4-1 in 2013 obtaining a 10th consecutive playoff berth with one All-State player and six All-Conference team members.

All-State

Making the All-State team as a senior, John Larabee (5-11, 170 pounds) moved from safety to linebacker and used his nose for getting to the ball to record 88 tackles. Larabee led the team in tackles for the second year in a row and scored 2 points defensively with a safety.

All-Conference

Earning All-Conference honors for the Cardinals were: Cory Henry, linebacker, ; Chas Turner, cornerback; Zac Yocum, defensive end; Morgan Lewis, center; Evan O'Dell, wide receiver; and Justice Hobbs, runningback.

Henry provided decent size at 6-2, 180 pounds and played effectively at linebacker.

Turner was a two-way contributor. As a cornerback he made 28 tackles and led the Cardinals with six interceptions, also breaking up three passes on defense. Turner played receiver on offense catching 16 passes for 235 yards and 4 touchdowns.

Yocum, 5-9, 185 pounds, transformed himself into an All-Conference force on the edges as a defensive end finding ways to contribute after playing runningback in junior high. Yocum recorded a blocked punt and added a pair of fumble recoveries to help Farmington jump out to a 6-1-1 start.

Lewis entered his second year as a starter in 2013. The junior anchored Farmington's offensive line and assumed responsiblity for making calls to determine blocking assignments at the line of scrimmage.

O'Dell played wide receiver and was particularly effective late in the season with 111 receiving yards on 7 catches for an averge of 15.9 yards-per-catch over the final four games nearly equaling his total of 114 yards on 8 catches in the first seven games. He had 1 touchdown receiving.

Justice Hobbs became Farmington's workhorse runningback taking the bulk of carries late in games. Hobbs rushed 143 times for 814 yards averaging 5.7 yards-per-carry with 3 touchdowns.
