Enjoying Company Of Children

Part of my mornings usually involve time in working the daily newspaper puzzles, including the quip-to-quip and quip-to-quote.

The following caught my attention recently: "You can be childlike without being childish. A child always wants to have fun. Ask yourself, 'Am I having fun?'" -- Chris Meloni

What better way than with children?

On Sunday, my niece Diana Bradley joined me in church with herr two-year-old twins, Aiden and Alexa Barbosa. They were quiet and well-behaved. While sitting on my lap, Aiden listened with rapt attention to the music, hardly batting an eye the whole time, as did Alexa during the closing song. And Auntie Marie was proud.

That afternoon, Don and Diana and the twins visited us and they were much more active, playing ball and whatever else they could think of. Talk about fun?

Monday, grandson Craig and Cherl Roy, Addison, 6, and Mason, 2, came for a visit -- more fun and games, and child-like I enjoyed the games with them, also visiting with their parents and great-grandma. I was proud and having fun.

Last Saturday, daughter Anna Cheatham and their granddaughter Kate Cheatham came for a visit to show me Kate's latest news. She had won the American Citizenship Award in her class in school, a beautiful framed certificate listing six categories she had passed to win the honor. Again, I showed my pride.

On the subject of children:

As they see it --

Grandad: "Come on, when I was your age, I had to walk six miles through snow to get to school."

Grandson: "So your parents couldn't afford gas either."

Happy birthday to Jimmy King, Patsy Wright, Gary Morris, Tara Stathakis, Natasha Murray, Daniel Bradley, Betty Mitchell, Mike Cox, Julie Davis, Wanda Bentley, Bryley Bradley, Bob Harrel, Alexander Myers, Wilma Shannon, Megan Roy, Max Roeder, Nicholas Lyons.

Best wishes to all.
