Lee Goes Back To Work

LINCOLN -- Tony Lee, assistant police chief, is back on the job after being arrested April 19 by a Washington County deputy in connection with misdemeanor assault charges, stemming from an altercation with his wife. His wife was not injured.

He was charged with assault on a household family member and endangering the welfare of a minor, according to an arrest report from the Washington County Sheriff 's Office. He was released April 20 on a $710 bond from the Washington County Detention Center.

Chief Russell Morphis said following the arrest that Lee had been put on administrative leave. "He will be on administrative leave until the judicial process runs its course."

The judicial process did run its course on July 15 when an agreement was reached between the Prosecutor Angela Hyde and Lee's attorney, Lisa Dennis, according to information from the Prairie Grove District Court.

The charges were nolle prossed against Lee on the condition he and his wife continue counseling and Lee completes an anger management course.

The term nolle prossed is the same as the Latin term nolle prosequi, which means a civil or criminal case will not be prosecuted. It is more commonly known as nol pros, according to the Encyclopedia of American Law, edition 2.

Lincoln Police Chief Russell Morphis said last week Lee had been taken off administrative leave and was back on duty.

"He will retain his title of assistant chief," Morphis said.
