FARMINGTON -- Steve Tennant announced Friday he is running for re-election as the Farmington City Attorney. If re-elected in November, it will be his fifth term as the city's legal advisor. Tennant has been in private practice for 28 years in Farmington.

As city attorney, Tennant is responsible for providing legal counsel for the mayor, city administration, city council and planning commission. He is likewise the city prosecutor and currently has Kendra Boyle as his deputy prosecutor.

Over the past 14 years, Tennant has drafted city ordinances from cell towers to zoning. He has negotiated and drafted contracts for construction, various services and Interlocal Agreements with city and county governments. Tennant worked extensively in recent years with the City of Fayetteville in contract negotiations for sewer services and cost share agreements for new infrastructure.

Tennant takes a proactive approach as the Farmington City Attorney.

"I prepare ordinances and give legal advice that is based upon anticipated outcomes. Foreseeing a problem and producing a result to prevent its occurrence minimizes disputes and avoids lawsuits," Tennant stated in a news release.

Tennant noted, "As an elected official, I ultimately represent the citizens of Farmington. I started my law career in Farmington and have lived here for 25 years, so I enjoy working for the folks in this town."
