Council Rezones Highway Property

PRAIRIE GROVE -- Prairie Grove City Council approved several ordinances and resolutions at its Sept. 22 meeting.

An ordinance concerning occupational licenses was amended to state that a business establishment includes any business or entity that operates from a temporary location for more than one week within the city limits.

The Council also rezoned property along U.S. 62 owned by Jones Trust from agricultural to general commercial or B-1. The property is located across from Clayton Tile and family members indicated they think they will receive more money for the property if it is zoned commercial.

The council accepted a bid from Central Poly Corp., of Linden, N.J., for trash bags for the city's sanitation department. The city will pay .1677 cent per 32-gallon bag and .1290 cent per 15-gallon bag.

The council also accepted a bid from Decco Contractors-Paving Inc., of Rogers, to improve and pave several streets in town. Improvements will be made to Parks Street west of Wayne Villines Road, parts of Mock Street, Bush Street east of Holmes, West Cleveland Street and all of Thurman Street.

In addition, the Council adopted a Wireless Access Policy and Remote Access Policy, which controls access to the city's wireless service and controls access to the city's computers. This policy was recommended by the state auditor.

Mayor Sonny Hudson signed a Go Pink Proclamation, proclaiming Oct. 3 as Go Pink for the Cure Day. Gov. Mike Beebe has declared Oct. 3 as Go Pink for the Cure Day.

The proclamation urges all fellow citizens to wear pink ribbons and help promote the effort for the prevention and treatment of breast cancer.
