Local Van Horn Brothers Exhibit Artwork

Local artists, William Van Horn of Lincoln and his brother Tom of Prairie Grove, will be showing their artwork, along with a third brother, Jim, at the Community Creative Center in Fayetteville. The art exhibition is called "Three Brothers' Expressions" and can be seen April 2-30 at Community Creative Center in the Nadine Baum Studios in Fayetteville.

Though all from the same family background, each Van Horn brother, working in different mediums and approaching art from different experiences, creates art that expresses their own artistic explorations and personal aesthetics.

Jim, a retired C-130 mechanic for U.S. Air Force, works with traditional photography. His photographs of windows emphasizes the reflections more than the objects directly in front of him. The blending of the objects in the windows and the reflections of what is behind him creates many details that the viewer often discovers only upon close observation. This is similar to the way people are aware of only that which is directly in front of them, missing many details of their environment.

Tom, an administrative assistant for Springdale Library, uses oil paint to explore line, shape, and movement. Starting with a blank canvas, he intuitively begins to paint. He lets the paint determine what happens next, the final artwork expressing the sheer joy of painting.

William, a retired middle school art teacher, works in a variety of mixed media. His assemblages and montages assemble everyday objects and images in unusual and unexpected combinations. From a distance the viewer sees patterns and textures; up close, the objects, often well known, become apparent. He is also showing three computer-manipulated photographs representing a recent direction in his artwork.

The show can be viewed Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m. and Saturday, 10 a.m.- 5 p.m. The Community Creative Center in the Nadine Baum Studios is located behind the Walton Arts Center in Fayetteville. Call 479-571-2706 for more information.
