About St. John's Northwestern Military Academy

The St. John's Northwestern Post Graduate - Advantage Year Athlete Program is hailed as being more unique than many of the other similar programs elsewhere in America. The program lasts one-year, in a post-secondary environment tailored to athletes, who want to play college basketball. Among the academic opportunities, student-athletes may repeat and substitute necessary core high school classes to gain college eligibility. Freshman-level college credits may be obtained in English, mathematics, social studies, and physical/natural sciences. College-level courses are taught by University of Wisconsin professors from the nearby Waukesha UW campus. The program begins in mid-August and ends in May.

At SJNMA student-athletes experience a near equivalent of a college freshman year in what the academy's website describes as a safe, structured environment specifically designed to work on strengths and overcome weaknesses while assisting in the development of self-confidence and self-discipline. Student-athletes are encouraged to develop college study skills and habits and have opportunities to improve ACT/SAT scores.
