Statistically, at least, Farmington was very competitive during their initial campaign as a 5A school in 2014. Despite being forced by injuries to relay on the passing of returning quarterback Brice Waggle, the Cardinals put up 270 points (27.0 ppg) while yielding 286 (28.6 ppg). In the final tally, Farmington gave up just two more touchdowns than they scored. The problem was they couldn't make big plays when they needed to, going 1-6 in the 5A West and ending the season on a four-game losing streak.

An arsenal of sure-handed receivers graduated including Waggle's favorite targets: Michael Ingram; Chas Turner; Evan O'Dell; and Cody Larrow.
