Upcoming Festivals Provide Fun Weekend Events

Several festivals will take place in western Washington County in September and October. Following is some information about each.

Prairie Grove Clothesline Fair

The annual Prairie Grove Clothesline Fair is Sept. 5-7 at Prairie Grove Battlefield State Park. This Labor Day weekend event, organized by the Lions Club, features more than 100 booths with artisans selling, displaying, and demonstrating their handmade crafts. In addition, there will be square dancing, displays of antique farming equipment, musical entertainment, and the park's historic houses will be open for viewing. Non-profit organizations will operate food and drink concessions in the park throughout the three-day festival.

The arts and crafts fair is open 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday and from 8:30 a.m.-3 p.m. on Labor Day Monday. A parade through downtown Prairie Grove starts at 9 a.m. Saturday and exhibits on life during the time of Civil War will be held at various times during the festival at the state park. Square dancing starts at 2:30 p.m. Saturday and 2:30 p.m. Monday at the amphitheater.

There is a $5 fee for parking in the state park each fee. No admission to the festival.

Cane Hill Harvest Festival

The 29th annual Cane Hill Harvest Festival will be held Sept. 19-20 on the grounds of historic Cane Hill College, located off Highway 45 in Cane Hill. The festival includes music, food, arts and crafts, quilt show, children's games and a petting zoo. Area residents will demonstrate how to make sorghum molasses, lye soap and hominy. Come watch, listen, relax and enjoy the lifestyle of yesterday.

A country style breakfast is served 7-10 a.m. on Sept. 19 and 20 and a cornbread and beans lunch is available both days. Hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. Two stages with live bands will be ongoing throughout the festival. The A.R. Carroll Drugstore and Historic Cane Hill Museum will be open and visitors can view ongoing renovations to the historic Cane Hill College building.

Rustic Relics Antique Tractor Club 20th Annual Fall Show & Pull

The 2015 Rustic Relics fall show will be 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 17 and Sunday, Oct. 18 at Nolan Farms in Morrow at the intersection of Arkansas Highway 45 and County Road 3.

The event includes a feature tractor, thrashing and baling demonstrations, tractor pull, antique tractor and equipment displays. An Oliver row crop 66 will be raffled off at 2 p.m. Sunday. Arkansas Apple Festival

The 40th Arkansas Apple Festival will be held Oct. 2-4 on the square in Lincoln. The fun weekend includes a parade, arts and crafts booths and free apple slices. Other activities during the weekend include entertainment and games. Parade starts at 10 a.m.

Festival hours are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Friday and Saturday and 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday. The Youth Talent Contest is held Oct. 3.
