Latta Family Holds 67th Reunion

Thunderstorms did not deter about 50 people from Arkansas, Kansas, Oklahoma and California from attending the 67th annual Latta reunion at the Latta Barn in Prairie Grove on June 13.

Lloyd Latta welcomed everyone and asked Ronnie Reed to bless the food and our gathering. After having a wonderful potluck meal, Wilma Copley read a letter that a young man wrote to our reunion president, Darius Copley, about what a great baseball coach he was. Darius could not attend this year because he is retiring from the Tucson, Ariz., fire department.

There were two cousins that passed away since the last reunion, Ernest Latta and Datha Johnson. Ernest only missed one reunion until his death. Darly Latta told about Datha feeding him a lot of cheese sandwiches when her son and he ran around together. Ronnie Reed told of his sister, Datha, being saved at 7 years of age. She didn't learn to drive until she was 31. Ronnie was her driving teacher. She pulled out in front of a car and was too close, Ronnie scolded her. She told him to "Hush! You don't do any better yourself." When Datha was young, she was left at home one day to take care of her younger siblings and she was a young girl herself. When her parents got home, she had all of them on top of the barn.

We had special singing. The Spillman family sang "At the Cross" and "I'm Gonna Make it Through." The David Latta family sang, "The Day I Knelt at the Old Rugged Cross." Larissa Latta sang "Jesus, the Name that set Me Free." Cory Danly played ukulele and sang "Ain't Gonna Study War No More" and "I Saw the Light." Emmalyn and Cambree Hall and Liberty Chamberlain sang "Jesus Loves Me."

Erma Nunemaker had the most family attending, about 20.

The next reunion will be Saturday, June 11, 2016, at the Latta Barn.
