FARMINGTON -- Fifth graders at Ledbetter Intermediate School presented the musical "Annie Jr.," this spring and students learned all about putting on a Broadway musical, with drama, singing and dancing, for the Farmington community.

More than 50 fifth graders were part of the musical and another 40 fourth graders formed a choir that sang several numbers in the play.

Sara Patterson-Bright, Ledbetter music teacher, said her students worked on the musical after school from February through May. They presented the play May 26 and 27.

"They've worked so hard," Patterson-Bright said. "This is a full blown Broadway musical and our kids are getting to do things you see at Arts Live or Trike Theatre."

The musical included several changes of scenery and backdrops, as well as costume changes for many of the characters.

Patterson-Bright said the new Tonya McCuistion Performing Arts Center is providing opportunities for her students to learn about performing on stage and using technology that comes with a state-of-the-art fine arts center.

"This is a vital time to get them interested in the arts," Patterson-Bright said. "We want to get them started doing arts so they can move on to doing even greater things."

Lead characters for "Annie Jr.," were played by Catherine Warren as Annie, Avanley Danenhauer as Ms. Hannigan, Dakota Bogan as Oliver Warbucks and Julia Cecil as Grace (Warbucks' assistant), and the couple who tried to impersonate Annie's real parents: Rooster played by Braden Bullington and Lily St. Regis, played by Mary Ellen Henry.
