FARMINGTON -- Teah Flynn, a 2015 Farmington graduate, is among ten Arkansas high school seniors selected as recipients of a $1,000 college scholarship from Centennial Bank.
The honor is part of Centennial Bank's 2014-2015 Athletic-Community Service Awards program now in its first year. Each student-athlete had to meet scholastic requirements of a 7-semester minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher, and each student-athlete had to score at least 21 on the ACT or at least 900 on the SAT. Additional requirements for the Scholar-Athlete Scholarship included being a senior athlete registered with the Arkansas Activities Association, meet NCAA scholarship rules, display good citizenship in their school and community; display desirable leadership traits; and participate in other school activities.
During her high school career, Flynn developed a Keep the Ball in Motion fund-raiser for genomic cancer research at Washington University in St. Louis, an event she has promoted for three years now since introducing it as a sophomore. Flynn's on the court prowess helped put the Farmington girls in fifth-place at the Class 5A state tennis tournament held at Hot Springs last fall. She advanced to the quarter round of state in singles play after winning the 5A-West singles championship and was named to the 5A All-State team.
In addition to Flynn, four other girls were selected for the Centennial Bank Scholarship including: Morgan Freehling, of Bentonville; Amber Helms, of Woodlawn; Madison Hotelling, of Rogers Heritage; and Sarah Roundtree, of Fountain Lake. In the boys' division the winners were Tyler Andrews, of Walnut Ridge; Kenton Graham, of Little Rock McClellan; Kyle Garrett Jones, of Springdale Har-Ber; Mahlon Anthony Martin, of Episcopal Collegiate; and Baxter Daniel Yarbrough, of Morrilton. The ten scholarship winners will be honored at a luncheon June 23 at the Conway Hilton Garden Inn at 11:30 a.m.
Flynn signed a letter of intent on May 4 to play tennis at Lindenwood University in Belleville, Ill. She was also selected to receive the Margie O'Brien Scholarship provided by the Women's Tennis Association of Little Rock.
