FARMINGTON -- A new business has opened in the former Marvin's IGA store on Main Street in Farmington.
Oops Inc., opened Tuesday, March 17, in the building which has been empty since the end of October.
Emily Tan of Fayetteville purchased the building from Marvin's on Nov. 25, according to court records. At the time, Tony Reeves, a spokesman, said Tan was not sure what she would do with the building, located at 271 W. Main St.
Tan, who owned an Oops store in Springdale, closed that store and decided to open an Oops in Farmington, Reeves said Friday.
Store hours will be 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesday-Saturday.
Merchandise in the new store includes silk flowers, vases, pottery, memorial sprays, purses, decorative items and many odds and ends. Reeves said the store probably will carry rugs and some furniture in the future.
One new item, he said, will be selling a drink called "BoBa," a creamy tea which is especially popular in California. The store also may serve other food items, such as pastries and dumplings, Reeves said.
Reeves said workers remodeled the store for the new business. They painted the walls, replaced sheet rock, removed refrigeration equipment, repaired electrical issues, ceiling tiles and holes in the floor.
"We did a lot of remodeling," Reeves said.
Tan did not want to be interviewed but did comment that she was glad to be in Farmington.
The former Marvin's building was constructed in 1998 and has about 23,000 square feet. It is located on 3.08 acres.
According to online records with the Washington County Assessor's office, Tan purchased the building and land for an estimated $975,000.
