Answering personal invitations, my daughter Anna and I attended the annual Veterans Day Ceremony at Farmington High School, held in their impressive new gymnasium.

The High School Crimson Select Ensemble opened by singing The Star Spangled Banner, this followed by the Pledge of Allegiance, led by student Jared Pinkerton.

During the presentation of colors, those present stood at attention as their represented flag was posted, Coast Guard, Army , Navy, Marine and Air Force, and finally the MIA-POW flag. This accompanied by the 80-member High School band.

Guest speaker was Sgt. Marshall Kennedy, and everyone's hero. The gist of his message, he doesn't ask for awards; he volunteered and enjoyed serving, for his family, friends and everyone's freedom. He's from a long line of veterans (back to the Civil War.) He mentioned that only 1% of our population volunteers for service.

The band played the Battle Hymn of the Republic, then Superintendent Bryan Law closed the event, with Taps played by the band.

This is always such an impressive event, mainly because of our feelings for our Service personal, and the evident caring of our young people.

Now, it looks like we'll have fresh venison for Thanksgiving dinner. Hudson Cheatham bagged a 3-point buck, one ahead of his dad and grand-dad. The youngsters have been besting the men, looks like they have a start again this year. Hudson's dad asked him if he wanted to wait and maybe get another one. His answer, "No I'm hungry. I want to go eat breakfast."

Happy birthday to Billy Wright, Carolyn Umberson, Sharon Luginbuel, Judy Bradley, Lacy Davis, Christine Rogers, Wayne Caswell, Lorene Schooler, Venus Pertubal, Kelly Bradley,

Happy anniversary to Chris and Kim Brock, and Bill and Betty Baker.

Happy years, all!
