FARMINGTON -- The popularity of the Minions, those cute dungaree and goggle wearing yellow sidekicks from the movie "Despicable Me," has come to Farmington.

The theme for the annual Farmington Kiwanis Christmas Parade is "It's a Merry Minion Christmas."

Parade festivities start at 5 p.m. with a chili supper sponsored by Farmington High School FFA at Folsom Elementary School on Grace Lane. Cost for the dinner is $5, children 5 and under free. Activities at Folsom will include visits and pictures with Santa, choir performances, dance and/or cheer performances, a drumline performance and a silent auction to benefit the Kiwanis Club.

The Minion parade starts at 7 p.m. from Folsom. Parade route is east on Main Street and down Southwinds Drive to Farmington United Methodist Church. Hot chocolate and cookies will be available at the church. Parade awards also will be presented.

Community organizations, churches, businesses, school groups and others are encouraged to enter a float in the parade. Floats will be judged on overall appearance, originality and creativity, crowd appeal and performance. Cash prizes will be given to first, second and third place winners.
