FARMINGTON -- Farmington's starting seventh grade right guard Nykolaus Comer has been selected as a member of the USA Football International team for athletes 14 and under.

According to Nykolaus' mother, Amanda Comer, the squad will be a team comprised of athletes born in 2002 or 2003. Nykolaus received the invitation in September and Amanda is excited about another opportunity for the 230-pound offensive lineman to develop a sound technique.

"This means we'll be in Dallas from Jan. 29 through Feb. 3. He'll spend the week working with current NCAA college coaches and/or elite high school coaches," Amanda Comer said. "At the end of the week he'll play his game in the AT&T Dallas Cowboy stadium"

Amanda wasn't sure yet if the USA squad will be playing against Canada in the age bracket of 14 and under. One possibility is USA may form two teams and play against each other because Canada may not bring a team in their age bracket. Amanda has heard but isn't sure that Canada has some restrictions and boys under 16 can't play American football.

The International Federation of American Football governs the competition which pits American athletes against teams from other nations and can take athletes to places they never dreamed of traveling. According to the IFAF website, in 2015, up to 100 players born in 1995, 1996, 1997 and 1998 were selected for the World Development Team, which is designed to offer the best under-19 players from around the world a camp in which they will develop their technique, fundamentals and football skills.
