FARMINGTON -- A young Cardinal football squad handed Pea Ridge seventh-graders a 24-8 defeat at Farmington on Sept. 17.
Farmington built a 24-0 lead before the Blackhawks got on the scoreboard. Cory Thomas and Tate Sutton scored on running plays in the first half with Sutton passing to Avery Wesley for a pair of 2-point conversions. In the second half Sutton ran behind right guard for a 1-yard touchdown on fourth-and-goal, then threw to Terrion Swift to add 2-points to the score and the Cardinals led, 24-0.
"We ran it inside. They gave us a look we liked and we took advantage of it," said Farmington coach Spencer Adams.
Cole Brown scored all of Pea Ridge's points with a 5-yard touchdown run up the middle with 5:57 left in the game. He added a 2-point conversion run.
Adams said the seventh-graders have made the season fun.
"They are a fun group to have. We have a bunch of kids out," Adams said. "They enjoy practice. They enjoy games. It makes it much more enjoyable as a coach when you have a group of kids that do that."
"We don't have a conference but our goal is to go out and win every game we play. Our goal is to get better every time we play a game," Adams said.
Farmington improved to 2-1. After a season-opening, 22-12, loss at Prairie Grove, the seventh-graders defeated Huntsville, 21-6.
