Lincoln Board OKs School Budget

Lincoln Consolidated School District started the school year with a $3 million balance and proposes to spend $13 million during the 2015-16 school year.

Lincoln Board of Education approved the 2015-16 budget at its Sept. 28 meeting.

The budget includes $4.4 million for salaries, almost $5 million for operation costs and $1 million for its building fund. Operation costs include $1.1 million for maintenance, $430,000 for transportation and $112,000 for athletics.

Other proposed expenditures are $587,842 for debt service and $963,048 for food service. For federal programs, the district proposes to spend $1.5 million.

The district projects to receive almost $14 million in revenue for the year. With projected revenues and expenditures, the district expects to end the 2015-16 school year with a balance of $3 million.

Revenues for the year include $6 million in state money, based on student enrollment, about $2.8 million from property taxes and about $900,000 from National School Lunch Student Funding. Another $1.5 million will come from federal funds, such as Title 1 funds.

In other action, board members elected Kendra Moore as board president, Connie Meyer as vice president and Dax Moreton as secretary.

Mary Ann Spears, school superintendent, said student enrollment remains about the same as last year -- 1,197 students for 2014-15 and 1,202 students for 2015-16, Spears said.

Spears is working on naming members to district committees. Those interested can call her at 824-7310. Committees will be vision/mission, community, school safety, wellness and parent involvement.
