Bethel Grove Extension Club Meets

The Aug. 11 meeting of Bethel Grove Extension Club was held at the community building with the meeting called to order by Candes Wilson. Roll Call was answered by "What do you like about Fall?" Present were Jeanette Chandler, Gloria Pendry, Joyce Nance, Shirley Raymond, Glenda Samuels, Candes Wilson and Jessica Nohl. Betty Walker is in the hospital and Nadine Spears is undergoing chemotherapy. Candes read a letter requesting donations for Linda Chapell (retired on July 1). A money tree will be made by the Goshen EHC. Send donations to Martha Brown, 12163 Elk Ridge Road, Wesley, AR 72773.

A motion was made by Shirley Raymond to give $50 from the treasury to the Chapell gift tree. Seconded by Gloria Pendry and passed.

A discussion followed about care of the community building. When we arrived we found more stains and mold, in general not cleaned. Jeanette suggested that we talk to Mr. and Mrs. Benish about our group reassuming responsibility for the building (utilities, care and cleaning, etc.) No renting. Candes will contact them. Jessica moved to ask them to return the checks and use it to hire a professional carpet cleaner. Gloria seconded. Passed. Candes stated that this means we may have to have fundraisers in the future.

No volunteer hours were collected. The next meeting will be Sept. 8 and we will go out to lunch, hosted by Shirley Raymond.

The mystery package was provided by Jeanette Chandler and won by Candes Wilson.

The Washington County Fair Entry day will be Aug. 29 and Aug. 31 is the baked goods entry. The judges' luncheon is Aug. 31 with the fair opening Sept. 1. We will be donating baked potatoes and desserts.

A delicious lunch of quiche, fruit, yummy rolls was prepared by Jeanette.

Our program was making a pincushion . The base was a canning jar lid covered with a yoyo of cloth and glued. Then 3 layers of cloth flower petals made from circles, (8,7,6) These were hot-glued to the lid and then a round center, gathered around the edge and stuffed, then glued in the center of the petals. The plan was we might make some for the scholarship bazaar.
