Clothesline Fair Ready For 64th Year

FAIR OPENS SATURDAY MORNING AT Battlefield STATE PARK

Prairie Grove Lions Club, the Arts Center of the Ozarks and Prairie Grove Battlefield State Park invite everyone to attend the 64th Annual Clothesline Fair, Sept. 3-5.

This Labor Day weekend event features more than 100 booths with artisans selling, displaying, and demonstrating their handmade crafts. Other activities going on throughout the weekend are square dancing, displays of antique farming equipment and musical entertainment. The historic houses will be open for viewing.

Non-profit organizations will operate food and drink concessions in the park throughout the three-day festival organized by the Lions Club, with proceeds benefiting Prairie Grove non-profit organizations including Band Boosters, PTA, and Boy Scouts.

As part of the Clothesline Fair , the State Park is participating in "Legacy Week." It's a week all about Arkansas State Parks, celebrating our existence and our mission. This year's featured topic is "Arkansas State Parks: Stewardship." Legacy Week exists to involve everyone in our heritage, create stewardship opportunities in these special places and strengthen the identity of Arkansas State Parks as a conservation agency. All across the Natural State this week, parks are offering programs, service projects and activities designed to foster appreciation for these special places.

The Clothesline parade, sponsored by Prairie Grove Chamber of Commerce, starts at Prairie Grove Middle School at 9 a.m. Saturday and ends at the state park. After the parade, on Saturday, there will be a Grandmaster Han's martial arts demonstration at the Bandstand from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Members of the Rustic Relics Club will display a variety of antique tractors and other farming equipment throughout the Fair with special demonstrations. As in past years, living history volunteer Jane-Ellen Ross will be in the Latta Kitchen. She will be discussing heritage gardens and talking about life and garden during the time of the Civil War.

One of the oldest arts and craft shows in Arkansas, the Clothesline Fair has something for everyone. The arts and crafts show, sponsored by Arts Center of the Ozarks of Springdale, gets underway at 8:30 a.m. and concludes at 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, and on Labor Day Monday from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Gospel music is the featured program, starting at 1 p.m. Sunday. Featured groups include Saved by Grace and several others from the surrounding communities. Any group or individual interested in singing on Sunday may call at 479-846-3968. Activities move to the amphitheater at 2:30 p.m. Saturday as an evening of square dancing exhibitions with children ages 4 and older, showing their skills followed by the older children at 7 p.m. Everyone will dance again on Monday starting at 2:30 p.m., with the competition begins at 7 p.m. Bring a lawn chair and enjoy the music and square dancing.

Hindman Hall Museum & Visitor Center is open and free of charge from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m.. The Visitor Center includes the interactive exhibits, and videos, along with the park gift shop, and restrooms. Park grounds, picnic area, and restrooms are open daily at 8 a.m. until dark.

There is a $5 fee for parking in the State Park each day. A portion of the fee supports the Prairie Grove School Backpack Program. The Prairie Grove School Backpack program supports a local child hunger issue throughout the school year and summer.
