Rally In Seventh Inning Of Nightcap After Losing Opener In 12 Innings

FARMINGTON -- After losing the opener 1-0 in 12 innings, Farmington rebounded to defeat Vilonia 13-12 to split its doubleheader with the Eagles on April 21.

Vilonia's Austin Newell's sacrifice fly in the 12th inning snapped the Cardinals 11-game winning streak and accounted for the lone run in a game dominated by pitching.

Farmington (17-4, 6-4 in 5A-West play) left 20 runners on base, including the bases-loaded twice, while Vilonia stranded 11 runners. Cardinals starter Tyler Gregg allowed two hits in seven shutout innings while striking out 10 and walking four. Derek Perona gave Farmington two shutout innings while Drake Vinyard allowed one run on three hits in three innings.

For the Eagles (14-6, 5-6), starter Cody Mitchell allowed two hits in four innings and Bradley Taylor scattered six hits in six scoreless innings pitched.

Tripp Cheney was 3 for 4 and Nick Huff was 2 for 5 for Farmington.

In the nigthcap, Ryan Larkin scored the winning run on a wild pitch after Gregg tied the score up with an RBI single in the bottom of the seventh inning.

The Cardinals trailed 8-0 before erupting for eight runs in the fifth inning.

Larkin was 2 for 3 with 2 runs and 2 RBIs, Blake Putnam was 2 for 4 with 3 RBIs and Kelton Price was 3 for 3 with a run and an RBI to lead the Cardinals offensievly. Gregg had two runs and two RBIs and Blake Madewell contributed three runs.
