Winter Hits Early With 'Young Snow'

My dad always called it a "young snow." The frost this morning made even the grass look white and my roof wasn't the usual brown. Even if we hadn't already had a freeze, this was surely a killing frost. Winter doesn't officially start until Dec. 21, but this week, will be an example of what is to come.

I once heard a word - octogenarian, supposedly one who was in their 80's, but the word isn't in my dictionary. I wonder if there is such a term for 90-year-olds. If so, my brother James Myers joined that group when he entered the first of the 9th decade of his life on his 90th birthday Dec. 3. The next day members of their church, in Morrow, surprised him with the usual Arkansas celebration, a huge dinner after services. When Anna and I arrived, they were about through eating and I got so caught up in visiting, I forgot to count those present, but all the tables in their huge fellowship hall were full. James received a stack of cards, all wishing him the blessing of many more such days, and Wilma said he had already received some in the mail.

Notice, due to many unexpected problems, the Christmas dinner at Sugar Hill Church has been postponed. It will NOT be Dec. 18 as planned, but hopefully sometime after the first of the year, hoping all concerned will be improved.

The Lincoln Kitchen Band had 12 members Tuesday, having fun, jokes, the chicken dance, the little red wagon ride, and even some music. The group plans to "take their show on the road," Thursday, Dec. 15 as they visit the Seniors in West Fork.
