A Farmington Planning Commission member is challenging an incumbent to serve on Farmington School Board for the next five years.

Lincoln and Prairie Grove school boards will not have contested races on the Sept. 20 election ballot. The filing period to run as a candidate for school board ended July 12.

In Farmington, incumbent Amy Hill and planning commissioner Jay Moore have filed to run for Position 4 on the School Board.

Hill was appointed to finish out the five-year term of former board member Bleaux Barnes in July 2015. Barnes resigned his position shortly after his youngest child graduated from Farmington High School.

Hill said serving on the board has allowed her the opportunity to serve the children in the district, teachers and the community.

"I was born and raised in Farmington and love this community," Hill said. "I have watched it grow and change tremendously."

She and her husband own Hill Electric in Farmington and have four sons who attend Farmington schools. The oldest will be a senior at Farmington High School and the youngest is in fifth grade.

"I feel as my children have gone through the different schools in Farmington, I can relate to the teachers as a parent but yet have business knowledge from growing our companies the past 15 years. I think these are qualities that help me serve on the school board. I'm excited to see the growth in our district and the growing opportunities within our schools for our children now and for the children and teachers of the future."

Moore, an attorney with Parker Law Firm in Fayetteville, has served on the Planning Commission since October 2015. He also worked as a deputy prosecuting attorney for Benton County. He and his wife have three children in Farmington School District.

Moore said he believes his education and training in finance and human resources would serve him well as a school board member. Practicing law has helped him to become a great listener and to advocate for clients and the community, he added. He earned bachelor of science degrees in finance and human resource managment from the University of South Carolina and his law degree from the University of Arkansas.

"I plan to be a sounding board for all members of the Farmington community," Moore said by email. "I will meet regularly with parents, teachers, coaches and administration, discussing their needs and wants. I will take those thoughts and opinions with me to our board meetings each month."

For the other school elections, Connie Meyer filed to run for re-election for the Zone 5 position on Lincoln School Board and Shawn Shrum filed for re-election to Position 7 on Prairie Grove School Board. No other candidates filed for those five-year positions.
