FARMINGTON -- The city of Farmington has purchased a new digita, speed trailer that will be used to monitor traffic, remind drivers of the speed limit on city streets and provide other information to drivers in town, said police Chief Brian Hubbard.

The city purchased the trailer for $15,759 and the plan is to move it around to different streets every two to three days, Hubbard said.

The sign will help provide traffic statistics to the police department. Hubbard said he also has it set up to show if a vehicle is traveling at a certain amount over the speed limit for a street. For example, the trip speed may be 41 miles per hour for a 30 mph speed limit.

Last week, the traffic sign was placed along Southwinds Drive and this week it is on Clyde Carnes Road.

Hubbard said the message on the sign can be changed to provide information to drivers, such as letting them know a street is closed or telling them about any road delays.
