'Tis The Holiday Season All Around

From free food to visits with Santa Claus to a Christmas parade, Farmington, Prairie Grove and Lincoln communities have several opportunities coming up to celebrate the Christmas season. Farmington leads it off with a tree lighting ceremony on the Saturday after Thanksgiving. Following is a schedule of events:

Farmington Tree Lighting

The city of Farmington will have its first Tree Lighting ceremony at 5:30 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 26. The ceremony will include music, hot chocolate and cookies and visits with Santa Claus. The ceremony will be held in the vacant lot next to Farmington Public Library and is sponsored by the city and Farmington Area Chamber of Commerce.

Farmington Christmas Parade

The annual Farmington Kiwanis Christmas Parade will be held 7 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 3. Theme this year is "An Old Fashion Christmas."

Pre-parade activities will be held at Folsom Elementary beginning at 5 p.m. These include a chili supper sponsored by Farmington FFA Club. Tickets are $6 per person. A fundraising silent auction sponsored by the Kiwanis Club also will be held during this time. Musical performances will be ongoing for audience entertainment.

The parade route will begin at Folsom and end at Farmington United Methodist Church on Southwinds Drive. Judges will be placed in front of Jim's Razorback Pizza. This year, floats will be judged in two categories, performance floats and non-performance floats. A form for parade entry is available on the Farmington Christmas Parade Facebook page or email [email protected].

Awards, along with hot chocolate and cookies, will be given out at Farmington UMC after the parade.

Prairie Grove Christmas

Visitors are encouraged to get in the Christmas spirit by strolling downtown to visit Santa and Mrs. Claus at Fat Rolls, participating in a Christmas craft activity and enjoying milk and cookies baked by the elves at the bakery.

Prairie Grove Junior Civil League will serve beans and cornbread at the Chamber building. Details for this are still being finalized.

Christmas On Lincoln Square
