Amy Hill, 39, running for election to Position 4 on Farmington School Board, said her experience as a mom to four boys and in running a business with her husband gives her a well-rounded background to serve patrons in the Farmington School District.

Hill graduated from Farmington High School and attended the University of Arkansas from 1995-1998. Her four children attend Farmington schools and are in 12th, 10th, seventh and fifth grades. She is involved with her sons in 4H and she and her family attend First Baptist Church on Rheas Mill Road.

She and her husband own Hill Electric Inc., and Buzz Electrical Services and she is involved in the day-to-day operations of the two businesses.

Hill was appointed by the School Board to fill a vacancy last summer when former board member Bleaux Barnes resigned the District 4 position.

Hill said she is running for election to continue as a board member because she wants to make a positive impact on the school district.

"I want to help make decisions for the future of our District," Hill stated. "I am proud of our District and want to continue the high standards that have been in place. With more and more alternative schools being built, I want our school to remain one that is highly desired for parents to look at when moving to the Northwest Arkansas area."

Her children have attended all Farmington schools, except Folsom, and that has given her the opportunity to get to know a lot of the teachers. She said she believes as a mom, she can relate to teachers and understands the importance of their job.

As a business owner, she said she has to have a financial knowledge of the company and how it is affected by decisions.

"When we make decisions on the board we need to consider the whole district, administrators, teachers, children and the community," Hill said.

If elected, Hill said she has several goals in mind, including the construction of Phase 3 of the new high school to provide space for football, track and soccer. She supports the high school's direction to implement career academies and would like to see more advanced classes for high school and younger students.

In addition, Hill said she wants the high school to give more options in vocational careers for those students who do not plan to go on to college.

"We need to do whatever we can to help those kids on a vocational level," she said.

Farmington's greatest strengths, Hill said, are teachers who are leading students to be the best they can be, a community that supports its students and an administration that is striving to provide the best education possible for its students.

In closing, Hill made this statement about her candidacy to serve school patrons: "I have lived in the Farmington District my whole life. We have established our businesses here in Northwest Arkansas. This is our home. Our roots are planted here. Every decision that I vote on, know that I consider the whole district when making them."
