Police Seek Juveniles In Connection To Shooting

SHOOTING POSSIBLY RELATED TO DRUG ACTIVITY

FARMINGTON -- A 30-year-old Farmington man was shot in the lower right chest early Monday morning and police are looking for two male juveniles from Fayetteville in connection with the shooting, according to Capt. Mike Wilbanks with Farmington Police Department.

Tuesday, Wilbanks said police believe the shooting is drug-related.

"To us, it looks like a drug deal going bad," Wilbanks said.

The shooting happened at 1:23 a.m. Monday at a townhouse on Plover Cove, a cul-de-sac located off Rainsong Street in Farmington. The victim was taken to Washington Regional Medical Center. Wilbanks said the victim was in stable condition on Monday.

Wilbanks declined to identify the victim or release the address of the residence.

When police arrived on the scene, three people were standing outside the residence and the victim was on the ground, Wilbanks said. He said the three witnesses were in the residence but did not see anything.

According to the victim's original statement, a black male, described as about 5 feet, 8 inches tall and 120 pounds, knocked on the victim's door and when he opened the door, he was shot with a pistol.

In a later statement, the victim said a Hispanic man also was with the black man. The victim described the Hispanic man as short and stocky. The suspect asked for marijuana and the victim said he told the suspect he did not have any. The suspect shot the victim, then fled.

In further investigation, police found a bag of marijuana with blood on it at the top of the stairway in the townhouse. Wilbanks said police believe the marijuana belonged to the victim. A 9 mm shell casing was found in the doorway of the residence.

Wilbanks said the investigation shows that both men who came to the door were juveniles from Fayetteville.

The investigation is ongoing and police believe an arrest will be made, Wilbanks said.
