January Turns Into Cold February

What a beautiful spring day! In January! The weather man said the day broke the record set in 1989, for high temperatures that day. But the first day of February reminds us that winter is still here. As of mid-morning on Ground Hog Day, he has not seen his shadow. According to the old saying, if he sees his shadow on Feb. 2, we will have six weeks of winter weather. Who knows?

During the past 25 years that we have had recycling in Lincoln, I've missed very few times to recycle, but never had I forgotten it, until the one on Jan. 23, it never entered my mind. A friend called that morning asking what hours they were here. We visited and I told him the hours, but never registered for me that that was the day. Oh, my senior moments!

Charlie and Carol Pitts of Siloam Springs celebrated their 50th anniversary on Jan. 28. Anna and I attended and of course, we enjoyed the visits and meeting many of the couple's friends. I had to check back on the date to fully realize they had reached the 50 years mark, and remembering from the time Charlie was born, all the years since. He is one of my many special nephews, and Carol also has been a special niece those 50 years.

Remember to take your favorite recipes to the Lincoln Senior Center for the cookbook they are planning to compile, and sell at the Apple Festival next fall, a fundraiser to help on the may expenses of running the Center.

Happy birthday to Matt Watson, Katherine Stathakis, Juanita Cox, Rachel Williams, Wanda Brakebill, Vicky Bailey, Sammie Hannah, Ronnie Cochran, Cody Danforth, Ramon Ramirez, Sue Heisler.

Happy anniversary to Jack and Evelyn Thompson, Kenneth and Gail Myers, Brandon and Angila Bradley, Doug and Effie Fulneckek.

Happy years, all!

Remember (don't forget) recycling next Monday, Feb. 13.
