Fire Destroys Lincoln House

Lincoln Fire Department responded to a house fire last week that resulted in a total loss of contents and building, according to Jay Norton, fire administrator.

The call came in at 9:32 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 8 for a wood-frame house at 12064 S. Highway 59. The occupant of the residence had come home to pick up some equipment for work and discovered the fire, Norton said.

Farmington, Prairie Grove and Cincinnati fire departments also responded to the call.

A spokesman with Washington County Fire Marshal's Office said the cause of the fire was undetermined at this time and still under investigation.

Norton said the fire department is keeping an eye on a wildland fire near Lincoln Lake. Arkansas Forestry Commission fought a 12-acre wildland fire that officials thought was out but Norton received a call Friday morning that wind apparently had picked up the fire again. He said he had alerted the Forestry Commission the fire seemed to have restarted.

Lincoln Fire Department also has stayed busy fighting grass fires. Washington County is under a Burn Ban and Norton urged people not to burn. He said most grass fires start from illegal trash fires. Norton pointed out it is illegal to burn trash in the state of Arkansas.
