FARMINGTON -- A variety of contributions from different players empowered Farmington to a 58-54 overtime victory over Alma at Cardinal Arena Friday.

"It was a battle from the tip-off," said Farmington coach Brad Johnson. "Our kids did a great job of responding to adversity at different points in the game. The kids stepped up and made plays."

Johnson pointed to key plays down the stretch and in overtime. Camryn Journagan converted a layup on a drive that put Farmington ahead, 43-43, at the 4:55 mark of the fourth quarter. Kaylee Brown had a driving bucket off a spin move that pushed the lead to 45-42. Then in overtime, Mackenna Vanzant nailed a 3-pointer to put Farmington ahead, 51-48, then after Alma's Sierra Bailey answered with a trey, Vanzant popped another trifecta to put the Lady Cardinals ahead for good, at 54-51. Johnson also singled out the defensive play of sophomore Anthea Jones.

"Anthea Jones worked her tail off, defensively," Johnson said, noting her tight coverage helped slow down Alma's Kailey Fagan, who scored 24 points for Alma.

Journagan's old-fashioned 3-point play that erased a 46-45 Alma lead with 1:28 remaining in regulation was another major contribution. A 3-pointer by Tatum Willhite gave the visitors the lead following a missed free throw by Farmington.

Bailey caught a lob in front of the rim and scored to send the game into overtime. Following the exchange of 3-pointers in the extra session, including the second by Vanzant, Fagan missed an off-balance shot which Madisyn Pense rebounded. Vanzant's free throws extended the margin to 56-51, but Alma came back with a trey by Madi Tobler. Vanzant then iced the game with two more foul shots. She finished with seven points in overtime and 24 for the game to lead Farmington.
