Cane Hill Kite Festival Coming Up March 4

The 16th annual Cane Hill Kite Festival will be held Saturday, March 4, on the grounds of Springfield Ranch in downtown Cane Hill. The Festival begins at noon and will last throughout the afternoon. The fun usually ends around 5 p.m. In case of rain or snow, the Festival will be postponed until March 11.

The Festival has grown every year and more than 350 people showed up in 2016 to fly kites or help someone else fly a kite. There is plenty of room for everyone to fly a kite without worrying about kites getting tangled up or flying into each other.

Cost to fly a kite is only $1 for kids and $2 for adults. No charge to park or to just show up to watch others. Military families, retired or active, are free. The festival is handicap accessible and there is preferred handicap parking.

Once again, Friends of Prairie Grove Pound will sell concessions in the hospitality tent. A kite hospital will be on site where seasoned experts will assemble and repair kites. Numerous volunteers will be available in the fields to assist in flying. Participants can bring their own kites or purchase one at the Festival, prices range from $1-$12.

The Fifty Cent Raffle (so named because each person may only purchase one 50-cent ticket) will award large nylon kites at 1 p.m., 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. In addition, numerous small prizes will be awarded throughout the day for totally frivolous categories.

The Kite Festival is sponsored by T.A. Sampson, owner of the ranch, with help from sponsors and volunteers. For more information, call 479-824-8109, email [email protected] or go to the Cane Hill Kite Festival Facebook page.
