Be Aware Of Telephone Scams

Evidently there is another scam going on. If your phone rings once or twice then cuts off, DO NOT call number back.

If you think a scam can't get to you, think again.

Some months ago. I was almost caught up in one, when a person called, who sounded just like a family member, saying he needed help (and he knew he could trust me!) for bail on a DWI charge. (Red flag -- because the person I thought he was, doesn't drink.) The supposed sheriff said I could pay by VISA from Walmart and Walgreen, sending $2,000 bail in four parts of $500 each, from two different places and the person could be released and home by evening, because no other charges were filed. He said he would call at 2 o'clock to see if I had sent it. When I said I would call him he refused to give me his number. (another red flag.)

The first thing we did, was call and check on my family member. He was not on a business trip and was at work in Bentonville as usual.

Then we called the police and they said it was a scam and just not answer the phone that afternoon. They get such reports all the time and can never trace the origin of the calls.

Unless you just enjoy the visit, don't pick up when the area code is from another area, or 800 numbers.
