Senior Safety Academy Shares Information For Senior Adults

A Senior Safety Academy in Prairie Grove will provide senior adults with information on different topics related to safety.

The academy will be held 8:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Thursday, March 30, at Prairie Grove United Methodist Church, 1401 E. Park St.

The meeting is sponsored by Seniors and Law Enforcement Together (SALT), an organization that seeks to promote safety among older adults.

"We want to make the senior population more comfortable and more knowledgeable about staying in their own homes," said Chief Deputy Jay Cantrell with Washington County Sheriff's Office, a member of the SALT Council.

The Senior Safety Academy will include a vendor fair, breakfast, lunch and door prizes. Topics will be information on SMART 911, identity theft and scams that target senior adults.

Cantell said the SALT Council is made up of law enforcement personnel, members of area fire departments and members at large who are familiar with the senior adult population in Washington County.

The organization was started in late 2015 and already has held similar senior safety academies in Springdale, at the Sheriff's Office and at Butterfield Trail Village in Fayetteville.

"We want to move it around and take the show on the road," Cantrell said.

Senior adults in the area are encouraged to attend the academy.
