GREENBRIER -- Greenbrier held off Farmington after the Cardinals scored on Trey Waggle's 70-yard completion to Xavier Staten to pull within, 41-33, with two minutes left Friday.

The conversion failed, yet the Cardinals, who fought back from a 34-21 deficit in the fourth quarter, were within a touchdown and 2-point conversion of tying the game and forcing overtime. Grant Brown recovered an onside kick by Farmington and Greenbrier took over on their own 44 before driving into Cardinal territory to run down the clock. The 41-33 loss dropped Farmington to 2-4 overall, and 1-2 in the conference.

Quarterbacks for both teams threw well. Farmington signal caller Trey Waggle was sharp. He completed 17 of 24 passes for 391 yards and 3 touchdowns. Greenbrier's Andrew Johnson (29 of 33, 331 yards, 2 touchdowns), hooked up with Reese Hammontree (3 catches, 100 yards) for an 84-yard touchdown pass play. Neither passer was intercepted.

After Greenbrier took an early 7-0 lead on Spencer Sutterfield's run, Farmington scored the next 13 points. Waggle threw to Staten for a 26-yard touchdown pass. The point-after kick tied the game, at 7-7. The Cardinals then forced a turnover on downs and took the lead in the second quarter. Waggle's 1-yard run was followed by a failed conversion and Greenbrier went back ahead, 14-13, at halftime when Sutterfield broke a 61-yard run.

Drew Sturgeon's 6-yard run, and a successful 2-point conversion put Farmington in front, 21-14, early in the third period. The Cardinals didn't tackle well and surrendered a pair of touchdowns in the third. Greenbrier tied the game on a Johnson 5-yard touchdown pass to Brown followed by the P.A.T. and took the lead for good on Hammontree's 84-yard catch and run. Farmington recovered an onside kick, but their drive ended with a missed field goal.

In the fourth. Sutterfield scored on 6-yard run giving the Panthers a 34-21 cushion. Waggle hit Sturgeon for a 50-yard touchdown and the Cardinals were one score down at, 34-27. Sutterfield's 26-yard run answered for Greenbrier. Sutterfield ran for 167 yards on 17 carries with 4 touchdowns.
