Benefits Of Hard Work At The County Fair

Every year Prairie Grove FFA has the opportunity to park cars for the Washington County Fair, along with cleaning the fairground after the fair. This is a big event for the students and teachers at Prairie Grove FFA. The students get community service hours while parking and cleaning.

Once the students arrive at the fairground via bus, they are fed, given a parking shirt, and enter the parking lot fairly quickly. We will be parking until there is not a large flow of cars anymore. This allows students to show their leadership skills or begin to build them if it is their first time helping at the fair. This also allows students to meet many people in the surrounding area and seek opportunities that are out there for them.

The fair starts on Tuesday and ends on Saturday, and the students are in the parking lots from the start to the finish. After the fair is over we begin to clean the fairgrounds, picking up all the trash and emptying all trash cans on the grounds. We are also responsible for cleaning out the barns, the hog barn being the most time consuming and hardest to clean. But, many students learn a good work ethic while working at the county fair, and their communication skills grow. They have to communicate with fellow FFA members to achieve the total goal of cleaning the fairground to perfection. In return for their hard work, the FFA Chapter will pay a portion of registration fees to the various activities throughout the school year.
