Prairie Grove Council Approves 2018 Budget

PRAIRIE GROVE -- The city's 2018 budget for the general fund projects about $2.3 million in expenses for administration, police, fire, district court and parks and recreation.

Prairie Grove City Council approved the 2018 budget at its December meeting.

Projected revenue for 2018 for the general fund includes $292,000 from property taxes; $679,000 from the 1 percent county sales tax; $260,000 from franchise taxes; $110,000 from building permits and fees; $128,000 from concessions, admissions and programs at the aquatic park; $140,000 from a state grant; and $192,000 from district court fees and fines.

Budgets for departments that fall under the general fund are:

• Administration, $884,000

• Police, $812,000

• Fire, $217,000

• Parks & Recreation, $430,000

• District Court, $147,000

Salaries for these departments for 2018 total about $1 million, not including benefits.

The Water Department's 2018 budget shows a projected $2.3 million in revenue and $2.2 million in expenses.

Revenue includes $1 million from water sales and $952,000 in sewer fees. Expenses include $460,000 in salaries (not including benefits), $400,000 for bond interest, $300,000 for water purchases, $158,000 for engineering fees and $110,000 for utilities.

The Street Department projects to receive $660,000 in revenue in 2018, with expenses estimated at $624,000.

Revenue for the Street Department includes $317,000 from the county 1-percent sales tax, $211,000 in state turnback funds and $90,000 from the highway construction tax.

The budget shows $162,000 in salaries (not including benefits), $150,000 for repairs and maintenance and $90,000 for sidewalk construction.

The Sanitation Department's 2018 budget shows $469,000 in revenue and $447,000 in expenses. The majority of the revenue, $420,000, comes from sanitation fees. Salaries will cost $131,000 (not including benefits) and landfill expenses are estimated to be about $86,000.

Other expenses for the year show $41,000 for library operations and $150,000 for park operations.
