FARMINGTON -- Farmington built an early 10-point lead, but couldn't hold off Siloam Springs down the stretch and lost 71-65 in overtime Friday at Cardinal Arena.

"We missed four or five layups that would have won the game," said Farmington coach Beau Thompson. "They (Siloam Springs) scored in the fourth and we didn't. That was the difference in the game."

Farmington led 24-14 after the first quarter, but the lead was trimmed to 50-47 at the end of the third period. Cardinal point-guard Peyton Maxwell, who scored a game-high 30 points, drained a 3-pointer to start the fourth. Thrice more Farmington pushed the margin back to six points. Mason Downs' putback gave the Cardinals a 57-51 edge with 6:20 to go.

Neither team scored for the next 2:58 before Siloam Springs guard Drew Vachon got to the hoop. On the ensuing Farmington possession, Jaylen Montez exploded to the goal with a quick-step converting a layup in traffic and Farmington was in front, 59-53. Diego Flores' pull-up cut the lead to four. Maxwell got into the lane off the dribble and was fouled He sank both for a 61-55 Farmington advantage with 2:20 remaining.

Karson Clement hit a 3-pointer for the Panthers then Farmington turned the ball over on a charging foul. The score stayed 61-58 for several tense moments. Skyler Montez cleared a rebound and Farmington had opportunity to extend the lead, but couldn't get a layup to stay down. One shot bounced out. An alternate-possession jump-ball reverted to Siloam Springs and Spencer Lashley drained a 3-pointer at the top-of-the-key to tie the game with 38 seconds left. Maxwell drove into the paint and appeared to draw contact as he got off a shot, but no foul was called.

The rebound was fought over as time expired.

In overtime Lashley sank 6-of-6 free throws as Siloam Springs pulled out the 71-65 win to sweep the season series with Farmington.
