FARMINGTON -- Retired Farmington girls basketball coach Brad Blew will be inducted into the Arkansas Coaches Association Hall of Fame on Friday, July 13, at the Hot Springs Convention Center,

Blew, who remains active as Farmington athletic director, retired from coaching girls basketball from a career spanning 1986-2009. His record stands at 464-146 in 23 seasons. Arkansas Activities Association Director Derek Walter made the announcement Friday, Jan. 26.

Blew led the Lady Cardinals to the 2004 State 3A championship. He coached two State Runner-up teams, reaching the state semifinals on eight occasions. Several of Blew's players went on to play women's college basketball, including Jessica Carter-McCullough, who played Division I at Mississippi State. She held the school individual scoring record for most points in a game at Farmington with 47 until Matthew Wilson broke that in 2017.

Honorees esteem the award because inductions into the Hall of Fame are voted on by the Arkansas High School Coaches Association, which according to the by-laws "shall consist of all current Arkansas High School Coaches Association (AHSCA) active members."

"It's pretty nice," Blew said of the honor. "Farmington has been a very, good place. I'm so blessed and fortunate to be a part of this school district. I know this place is always home for me. Me and my family we have been treated so well here."

AHSCA Officers

By-laws state the Executive Committee of the AHSCA shall serve as members of the Board of Directors for the AHSCA section of the Hall of Fame. There shall be a chairman, who shall be the AHSCA President serves as chairman and presides over the annual meeting scheduled by the board as a whole (AHSCA).

The Executive Director of the Arkansas Activities Association serves as the Hall of Fame Executive Secretary. The annual banquet of the Hall of Fame for the purpose of honoring inductees into the AHSCA Hall of Fame shall be scheduled by the board as a whole.

Other business, such as voting on a change in the bylaws may be conducted at the general membership meeting or by online voting.

Selection Of Inductees

According to Article VII regarding the "Induction Process" and "Selection of Inductees," the AHSCA board bears responsibility for establishing criteria to be eligible for induction into the AHSCA Hall of Fame.

General criteria for Eligibility for induction is as follows.

a. Significant contributions to the AHSCA -- state officer, clinic speaker, etc.

b. Accomplishments/honors on the state level.

c. Accomplishments/honors on the national level.

d. Must be on the master list.

e. Must be a minimum age of 40. Old Timers must be 60 or older.

f. Must have coached at least 15 years at the high school level; except under extenuating circumstances.

g. Must be retired from active coaching.

Induction Process

Section 7.3 describes "Procedure for Induction," and stipulates five to seven honorees shall be inducted into the Hall of Fame each year. Six, including Blew, will be inducted in 2018.

a. Nominees are submitted to the state office for inclusion onto the master list along with supporting material. A name remains on the master list for five years and then must be resubmitted if not selected for induction.

b. The board and a Senior Advisory Committee (comprised of five AHSCA Hall of Fame members selected by the AHSCA liaison) shall select 25 names to be included in the ballot.

c. The list of nominees shall be submitted to the general membership along with the achievements of each. Each member shall vote for five nominees in order of preference.

d. The names of all nominees along with the number of points each received using the following tabulation system: 5 points for first place, 4 points for second, 3 points for third, 2 points for fourth, and 1 point for fifth.

e. The final voting process by the board will consider the vote of the membership and the recommendations of the Senior Advisory Committee.
