Recipe Club Enjoys Goodies

Because some family members had to be on the job on the 4th, the holiday was celebrated the following Saturday, at the home of Johnny and Anna Cheatham, and what a celebration! After the huge picnic style meal, the fireworks started and continued until 11 p.m. So many different fireworks were enjoyed, some two at a time, and some firing alternately. "Back when" we were fortunate to have firecrackers, bottle rockets an such, but these days they are so much more complicated and BIG! Now they have such names as Purple Pageant, Pure and Shine, Hammertime, Snafee, Show Stoppers and New World Order, just a few of the many that were enjoyed. Another plus for the show, I think the smoke kept the mosquitoes away.

Five ladies met for the regular recipe exchange Monday. This time, instead of just written recipes they shared the real thing, filled dishes. Those present were meetings planner Dorothy Struab, Betty Colburn, Liz Hamblet, Pam Jordan and yours truly. The goodies included scalloped potatoes, meat loaf, green beans, pear salad, pickles, sliced tomatoes and fruit salad. Dorothy had a stack of recipe books to share, and all that were left were to be donated to the library. Next meeting, each one is asked to share a household hint.

The weather forecasters have been mostly right -- spotty showers and pop-up showers. A good shower will fall on one place, and one-half mile away, not a drop. We even received a good shower Tuesday, while the sun was shining. We're thankful for every drop.

Happy birthday to Danny Butler, Gracie Ramirez, Terri Pitts, Joyce Snodgrass, Amy Love, Effie Fulnechek, Garrett Bush, Kenneth Davis, Gary Morris, Jimmy King, McKenzie Pretty and Easton Pretty (twins), Millard Matthew, Tara Stathakis.

Happy anniversary to Shadoe and Caitlyn Vanatta.

Happy years, all!
