LINCOLN -- Junior pitcher/infielder Caleb Lloyd received All-Conference honors for the 2018 Lincoln baseball season.

Lincoln positioned Lloyd where needed. He lined up at catcher, shortstop, first base and on the mound quietly leading by example.

According to Justin Bounds, who coached Lincoln for the 2018 season, "Caleb is kind of a quiet kid. He's not a real verbal kid. He's been that way as long as I've known him."

Lloyd finished as the team leader in several categories, including: batting average, .423; hits, 30; singles, 22; extra base hits, 8; runs batted in, 16; slugging percentage, .577; and quality at-bats, 30.

He scored 14 runs, and won the Lincoln Wolves Silver Slugger Award at the sports banquet. Lloyd pitched 25.2 innings and recorded 29 strike-0uts while pitching.

"He's a good ball-player, a good athlete," Bounds said. "We could have moved him around anywhere on the field and he could have been successful. Most of our categories, he led us in. He was the only one who batted over .400. He had two or three triples. He was in the top two or three in RBIs, which is kind of odd. We batted him all year in our two-hole hitter, which meant that kids in the bottom of the order were getting on base and he was driving them in."

For Bounds, one particular game stands out when Lloyd started on the mound during a regular season conference game on the road at league powerhouse, Shiloh Christian.

"It was a 10-4 game, he kept them off-balance, he kept us in that game," Bounds said. "Then we took him off the mound and we moved him to first base and he made the play of the year. There was a little pop-up and he caught it. If anybody else was there at first base I don't think they could catch it, but he did. He's a very athletic kid, whether it's pitching or playing quarterback in football. It shows up in everything he does."
