LINCOLN -- Representatives with Area Agency on Aging of Northwest Arkansas are signing up participants for the 2018 Senior Farmers' Market Nutrition Program.

The last two sign-ups in Washington County will be 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, May 11, at Farmington Senior Activity & Wellness Center and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Thursday, May 17 at Fayetteville Senior Activity & Wellness Center.

To be eligible, a person must be 60 years or older and meet monthly income guidelines. For a family of one, the gross monthly income is $1,872. For a family of two, the monthly income is $2,538; family of three, $3,204; family of four, $3,870.

Only one person in the family has to meet the age requirement but the income is based on the household income.

The program allows one coupon book per household and coupons can be used to purchase locally grown fruits, vegetables, herbs and honey from local farmers' markets. Each book has 10 coupons at $5 increments.

The markets participating for 2018 include Fayetteville's Market on the Square, the Green Fork Farmers Market on Dickson, Springdale Farmers Market at Jones Center and Downtown Springdale Farmers' Market.

Participating vendors will have a sign that shows they are a part of the program.

Linda Willkie, director of Prairie Grove Senior Activity & Wellness Center, said her senior adults enjoy going to the Fayetteville Farmers' Market and many of the vendors are generous in helping senior adults with the coupon books.

"It's a wonderful program and wonderful to be able to provide this," Willkie said.
