LINCOLN -- Three pointers were the answer as Lincoln defeated former 4A-1 foe, Shiloh Christian, by a score of 51-41 during the first annual Turkey Trot basketball tournament Wednesday, Nov. 21.

The Lady Wolves sizzle at times from the 3-point line and shot 33 percent against Shiloh. Each time the Lady Saints made a run, Lincoln came up with a timely 3-pointer to break their momentum.

Senior foward Jessica Goldman hit twice from beyond the arc and added a coast-to-coast play in the first quarter. After making a steal underneath the goal she was defending, Goldman drove the length of the court for a layup and a 10-3 Lincoln lead. Goldman finished with 19 points and 7 rebounds.

Classmate Libby Calico scored 12 points and helped Lincoln maintain its lead during the second quarter. She hit a 3-pointer late in the first keeping Lincoln's advantage in double digits at 15-5 and repeated that exact scenario twice in the second quarter. Early in the second Calico connected two more times from the same spot, once when she was left open against Shiloh's zone for an 18-8 Lady Wolves' lead; and the second time when Tania Ortiz kicked an offense rebound out to her and the made trifecta pushed Lincoln's lead to 23-13.

Lincoln center Robin Kirk plays a lot like former Kings' All-Star center Sam Lacey when the professional basketball franchise was based in Kansas City. Lacey, a savvy defender who at 6-feet-10 had no big shot-blocking center to back him up when going for a steal -- he was the center.

Lacey, who passed in 2014, is one of only five NBA players along with Hakeem Olajuwon, Julius "Dr. J" Erving, David Robinson and Ben Wallace to have recorded 100 blocked shots and 100 steals in six consecutive seasons.

Kirk scored 8 points and had 6 rebounds plus 3 steals for the Lady Wolves in taking to the court against Shiloh. Kirk has registered multiple steals and blocks in several games already thus far this season.

Lincoln out-rebounded the Lady Saints, 31-28, and came up with 9 steals, including a crucial swipe by Averi Massey doing her job protecting the back-court and running down a loose ball with the Lady Wolves holding a 43-38 lead late in the contest. Massey hit a 3-pointer to push Lincoln's lead back to nine, at 28-19, just over half a minute into the third quarter. She tallied 3 steals for the game.
