The World Of The Blog

When I say "the world of the blog," it sounds like some disease. It also sounds very close to "the world of the blahs." Either way, it sounds funny to me.

At the encouragement of friends and family, I started a blog over a year ago, but for several reasons I dropped it. I thought it took too much time to keep up. But did it really?

No. The truth is: I didn't understand the purpose of the thing and it was not user-friendly for me. I also heard about people spending so much time on blogging and Facebook, and that caused them to ignore other responsibilities. That was a turn-off.

Blogging and Facebook have a good purpose in life, but like eating, many people are overdoing it. I simply didn't want to get caught up into something that wasn't worth my time and effort. Also, I didn't want to jump on the bandwagon just because others were doing it.

Result: I walked away from it.

But I've been listening to my brother, Paul Linzey, lately. He's a good man. Retired U.S. Army Chaplain (Colonel), former pastor, former university professor, a published author, family-counselor, keynote speaker at the 2017 Siloam Springs Writers Guild Conference, super friend and now a motorcycle rider. What a guy!

By the way, you should check out Paul's website: paullinzey.com.

Now, where was I going with all this? Oh yes ...

Paul helped me understand that WordPress (the system he uses and that I used last year) has been improved, and that I should look into it again. So I did.

It has definitely been improved, but because I am not a computer guru, I still had a difficult time with the system. But would you believe it? My brother Paul, who is in Florida, spent the better part of three days on the phone with me and helped me with my new-and-improved web or blog site. He's a knowledgeable and compassionate man, and that's why he's an effective family counsellor.

My new site is genelinzey.com.

What am I putting on my site? I'm glad you asked.

Many folk who live out of town have been asking if they could receive my Reflection on Life articles, so, I am starting by putting articles on the blog that were in the Siloam Springs Herald-Leader five to seven years ago. They are as applicable to life now as they were then. The Herald-Leader newspaper and other weeklies, including the Enterprise-Leader, will continue to run the current Reflections.

Also, others both in and out of town want to know what my Precious Carol and I are up to, so I will add travel updates, and let people know about my other writing endeavors. I'm sure I'll find other uses for the blog.

When I told Carol that she will have one or two pages dedicated to her, she asked, "What would I put on your blog?"

When I corrected her and asked, "What will you put on YOUR blog pages?" She said, "I don't know." I told her that she could talk about our 35 grandchildren, talk about her travel experiences, and when we return to Siloam Springs next year she might resume her necklace business. (I think she has created about 35 so far.) She'll think about it.

One thing I won't do is make the blog a time-waster. I won't waste my time doing mere busy-work, and I refuse to waste other people's time reading useless stuff.

Do you know that God has a blog? Don't laugh at me. Think about it.

Long ago men began writing what God told them to write. We have reason to believe that Moses didn't initially write all of Genesis, but that he compiled some of the writings written by prophets prior to the flood which were saved and handed down by Noah, Shem, Abraham, and several others.

God spent a minimum of 1,600 years -- possibly up to 3,000 years -- having people write His messages. Of course, you know that I am talking about the Bible. God did not waste His time, either.

As I will keep in touch with all of you through my blog site, God wants to keep in touch with every one of you through the Bible, but also through the guidance of the Holy Spirit.

Keep reading our weekly papers and look into genelinzey.com. Let me know what you think.

But much more importantly, keep reading the Bible to find out what God thinks.
