PRAIRIE GROVE -- The 800-pound gorilla in the 4A-1 Conference isn't asleep anymore.

In fact, the gorilla has climbed to the top of the league standings and shaking its fist after pulverizing one of the teams expected to contend for the 2018 league championship Friday.

Shiloh Christian took out three years of frustrations on a turnover-plagued Prairie Grove squad and handed the Tigers their worst league loss (56-14) since a 49-14 defeat at the hands of Shiloh Christian on Oct. 8, 2010. That game, like Friday's, was played in Springdale and came during a season in which Prairie Grove missed the playoffs with a 4-6 record. For trivia buffs -- that's an impressive streak of 81 regular season games going back to the 35-point loss to Shiloh in 2010.

"We just got outplayed," said Prairie Grove coach Danny Abshier, of Friday's blowout.

Abshier and his staff have over the years managed to hold their own against the jet-setters from Springdale with their corporate sponsorships and recruiting pool that sprawls out across the Northwest Arkansas metroplex.

Shiloh had lost three games in-a-row from 2015-2017 to Prairie Grove -- the only 4A-1 team to own a winning record against the Saints.

On Friday, a bad case of kickoff return fumble-itis combined with an interception returned 53 yards for a Saints' touchdown on defense turned a 35-14 halftime deficit into a third quarter disaster of epic proportions.

"We created our own mistakes, you can't do that regardless of whoever you're playing," Abshier said. "We had six turnovers in a game. We were highly-concerned about them doing onside kicks. We practiced that during the week. They onside kicked it one time. When they did kick to us, we didn't catch it twice and one time we do catch it, we fumbled. We threw three interceptions, one of them was a 'pick six.'"

This week the Tigers host Pea Ridge (4-2, 3-0 4A-1), a 42-0 winner over Gravette (0-6, 0-3 4A-1) last week.

With the loss Prairie Grove drops to 3-3 overall and 2-1 in conference play; while Shiloh Christian improves to 5-1, 3-0 4A-1.
