Vandals Tag Park With Spray Paint

FARMINGTON -- Public works employees went to work Monday morning cleaning up vandalism that occurred over the weekend at Creekside Park in Farmington.

The suspects tagged almost everything they could with spray paint, according to Lt. Chad Parrish with Farmington Police Department.

"There's spray paint on signs, concrete, children's toys, slides. Basically, everything they could spray paint," Parrish said. "It's bad pictures and bad words."

Floyd Shelley, public works manager, said he saw the vandalism Saturday morning and decided to leave it up for the weekend for the public to see.

"I want them to be as mad about it as I am," Shelley said.

He added that he hoped someone saw something and will report it to the police department.

Shelley said his staff began removing the vandalism Monday morning. He said the vandals probably were teenagers and thinks at least one is the same person who used chalk to write on playground equipment previously. None of the playground equipment was damaged.

Shelley said the park has some security cameras but probably the city will discuss a new security system as part of the improvements that are planned for Creekside Park in 2019.

Parrish said the vandalism is under investigation by the police department. Anyone who has any information is asked to call the department, 479-267-3411.
