FARMINGTON -- Breakdowns on both sides of the ball during key situations proved costly allowing Vilonia to edge Farmington, 28-25, in 5A West Conference play on the road Friday.

Vilonia's Draven Smith ran for two touchdowns, and Jordan Britton connected with Reed Sadler with a pair of touchdown passes.

"We played very well on both sides of the ball most of the night, but we had lapses at crucial times that cost us the ball game," said Farmington coach Mike Adams. "Defensively we held them to less than 50 yards rushing, but we gave up almost 250 yards passing, many of which came on third and long situations."

Smith's 9-yard touchdown run late in the second quarter snapped a 14-14 tie and gave Vilonia (3-4, 2-2) the lead for good, then he added a 21-yard touchdown run to give the Eagles a 28-17 cushion with 7:59 left in the third quarter.

Eric Hill, who hit Marqwaveon Watson with two touchdown pass in the first half, had a 6-yard touchdown run and a two-point conversion pass to Ben Macedo to pull Farmington (3-4, 1-3) within 28-25 early in the fourth quarter. The Cardinals drove the ball to the Vilonia 41 late in the game but turned the ball over on downs.

"We had two trips inside their 15-yard line when we scored no points," Adams said. "We turned it over on downs on their 9-yard line and had a 27-yard field goal attempt blocked. Had we scored on either one of those trips obviously the outcome would have been different."

Trace South turned in an outstanding performance on defense with 7 solos, 1 assist, 3 tackles for losses and a sack.
