Hard Work Accomplishes Much In Old Garden

A hay ride, games and food are planned for this Saturday, Oct. 10, at Sugar Hill Church.

To begin, a visiting couple will present a program based on God's word.

This event is early for Halloween, because the one planned last year was missed due to bad weather.

All youngsters (and young at heart) are urged to come and participate, around 6 p.m.

It's hard to believe that so much could be accomplished in one day.

Most of my old garden had grown up into trees and brush over the years. My son-in-law Johnny Cheatham, their son Dean and grandsons Derek and Hudson, spent all day one Saturday cleaning that up.

Elm, ash, maples, red bud, etc. were cleared out with two chain saws, two tractors, one with hay fork to move brush, and one to push out small growth and up-root trees. My old red bud, damaged badly by the recent ice storm, did bloom beautifully this year, but literally fell apart when it was pushed out, it was so rotten.

They did find a young red bud that they saved. They also cut down a pin oak and young maple in my yard. Both for some reason were dying.

The boys and I planned for a big wiener and marshmallow roast. They earned a party! They piled a lot of brush, all day.

The Golf Ball Drop is Friday, Oct 9, at 1 p.m. in the T-Ball field on Holt Road. Get your golf balls at the Lincoln Senior Center. All donations help pay for the services of the Center.
